You are not broken; you are breaking through.

Meet Dr. Searle

Cameron Searle, Psy.D.

Hi, I’m Dr. Cameron Searle. I am a licensed psychologist treating teens (16+), young adults, adults, and elderly people. I earned my doctoral degree and master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Baylor University. I also have a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Ball State University, and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Binghamton University. I have been a New York State Licensed Psychologist (Psy.D.) since December 29, 1999, and completed Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Intensive training through Behavior Tech in 2013.

I have spent my career caring for those in behavioral health inpatient hospitalization with 14 years as a clinician, and 14 years as an administrator running an inpatient Psychology Department at a New York State Psychiatric Hospital. As part of my staff responsibilities, I coordinate the inpatient adult DBT, Cognitive Therapy for Recovery (CT-R), and inpatient cognitive remediation programs. I am also the co-chair for our high risk and ethics committee, and am trained in Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS).

Through Spirit Unbroken, I treat a variety of concerns including: anxiety, depression, trauma, personality disorders, serious and persistent mental illness, and with my extensive experience in inpatient, I have a special passion for those wanting to work on suicidality, and those recovering from substance use disorders. I want to help, if at all possible, to keep people safely in the community, because I have seen the devastating impact that inpatient hospitalization can have on people already struggling with maintaining their will to live.

I understand the impacts and how life changing behavioral health struggles can be for individuals and families, and how often people seeking help have sometimes been met with ineffective or poorly matched treatment. While the majority of people seeking services respond well to evidenced based treatments, sometimes people fall through the cracks, especially when they are labelled with diagnoses and then matched to treatments almost exclusively based on that label. I ethically approach treatment based on the evidence of real-world change for the person receiving treatment, adjusting based on both inside and outside the box methods, looking for practical results to help you achieve your goals based on your values. Treatment is collaborative and respectful, where I have the training and experience to have professional expertise, and you are the expert of your experience, your aspirations, and your hopes. Let’s work together to help you not only manage current challenges, but to make concrete changes in your life so you can thrive. That is a core value of treatment at Spirit Unbroken.

Treating a wide range of concerns for youth and adults, Spirit Unbroken is here to help you build and go beyond coping skills to help you gently restore balance, and become the driver of your authentic self, one caring step at a time.
